Calling all poets, flash fiction authors, and hybrid writers! We are seeking Ekphrastic poems, micro fiction, and prose inspired by music: a song, piece of music, composition, song title, musician or band, or the like to be presented live and in-person at a Death Rattle Literary Showcase at Storyfort 2024 in March.

Ekphrasis is the use of vivid language to describe or respond to a work of art. The poet/writer responds to their chosen piece in an abstract, avant-garde interpretation— reconstructing and expanding on the themes, meanings, and/or depicted action contained in the original. Each writer will have 7-8 minutes each to present their piece live. 

The piece “Aubade with Burning City” by Ocean Vuong is a great example of music and memory being utilized for Ekphrastic work. Check it out!
