Poetic Forms: Erasure/Blackout Poetry

Workshop- all levels, no previous experience required. All ages. $15. 2hr 30 minute. 10 seats max.

In this class participants will look at the varying styles and presentations of an erasure poem. We will have a 30 minute lecture on utilizing the right books, historical documents, essays and articles one can use for a piece. How to discern long format or one page erasure pieces while allowing your personal narratives to take shape. There will also be examples of contemporary and multimedia erasure poetry by Quenton Baker, M. NourbeSe Philip, James Herbert among others. Participants will then have the opportunity for an hour to work on a piece with printed work or book they would like in order to morph a source text into something that has a new meaning.
