Comics workshop on creating wordless comics: images in a sequence.
Have an idea for a comic or a comic in the works and want to practice really
conveying feeling, mood, sensation, and emotion through your drawings rather
than just telling your reader what’s going on? Then this is the workshop for you!
In this workshop, we’ll focus on thinking about images and how they can communicate in much more effective ways than just explaining what a character is feeling. i.e. rather than making a super literal comic about an interaction or event, think about and use visual metaphors could communicate the same thing.
In this class, we’ll focus more on the elements of the images and how they inform the piece’s outcome: details like printing method, using different page layouts for different characters and moods, and “showing” with distinct shapes, marks, color, and tone; all in order to move away from reliance on text and dialogue to provide context and meaning.
We’ll start class talking about what images in a sequence can be, examples in others work, and
then time for work and review. Bring a project you’ve been wanting to start or flesh out using some of these techniques!
