MJ Avila-Pope

MJ Avila-Pope is a visual artist and musician currently located in Boise, Idaho. With a background in musical performance and composition, her primary mediums include video, sculpture, poetry, and musical composition, often creating pieces that bring together multiple mediums. Her most recent works bring together video art and music, aiming to either create visuals for musical compositions, or, filming performance art with the intention of creating a video work out of it. MJ explores her identity as a queer woman, tackling subjects such as bodily autonomy and queer trauma using the body and its functions- how it moves, loves, and hurts. Employing visceral, gothic imagery within many of her video and musical works.
